David's Third Birthday

David's third birthday was Tuesday and we celebrated all day doing things that David likes to do.

David and I made oatmeal pancakes for his breakfast. David sat on the counter and helped me measure and pour all the ingredients. We made them extra-special-birthday-style by putting the batter into a Mickey Mouse shaped mold.

Before Chris went to work we let David open all of his birthday presents from our family. As you can see from the good sized stack behind him, David is one lucky (and somewhat spoiled) little boy!

One of David's presents was a Winnie the Pooh ornament for the Christmas tree, which he thought was pretty cool.

Chris and David with another present, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse racetrack, which I set up after Chris went to work. David played with it for about an hour straight without talking to me or looking at me once ... I think he likes it.

Our dining room decorated for his Cars themed birthday party that night. I have to say that I'm pretty proud of the decorations because I got them on clearance last January for a really great price and managed to move them across country and find them in time for David's birthday - that's about as organized as I've ever been in my entire life! The birthday party consisted of our family and two others, so we had six adults and six children (plus baby brother Timmy) over for dinner and dessert. Dinner was totally David safe: hamburgers, french fries and coleslaw. I picked hamburgers because our local organic/health food store started carrying David-safe hamburger buns. It was a special treat for him to be able to have a real hamburger.

These chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting came from mixes by Cherrybrook Kitchens, one of my favorite allergy-friendly companies. I've got some from-scratch recipes, but I've never tried them and I didn't want a failed dessert on David's birthday. These were delicious and, according to Chris, did not taste like "health-food" which is his highest praise for David-safe baking.

David was very excited to see his lighted candle birthday cupcake and for everyone to sing happy birthday to him.

It took him two tries, but he succeeded in blowing out the candle all by himself.

He was pretty proud and happy.

After dinner and dessert the kids all ran around and played for quite a bit before it was time for everyone to go. David had so much fun he woke up the next morning asking for another birthday party!
