Timmy's First Food

As I was packing for our 4th of July trip to Nana and Papa's house (Chris' parents) I decided that we had waited long enough. Well, actually Timmy gave me what I deemed to be a sign. The night before, as we were eating dinner with friends (Timmy was in my lap while I was eating), Timmy put his fist into my plate of spaghetti. So, here was the equation in my head. Timmy seems interested in food + lots of relatives that want to share in our special moments = as good a time to try as any.

Other factors that I was thinking about:
  • David started rice cereal at about 4 and a half months old and loved it
  • rice cereal is a very safe food allergy wise
  • I don't see any signs in Timmy that he has early onset massive allergies like David (little to no eczema, solid stools, little to no fussing after a bottle)
  • Timmy is at least a pound heavier than David at the same age, he might need more than milk to sustain his weight gain soon

So, last Friday we tried it and drumroll please .... he's uninterested. Unfortunately for him, though uninterested, he still had to eat everyday for a week so that I would be satisfied that he is not allergic to rice. (That's the standard for a new food trial for infants - you give them one new food everyday for a week and if there's no reaction it's considered a safe food. One new food at a time.) I think we'll stop for a week or two and try again later. But here are some pictures of Timmy's first attempts.

I pretty much love that look on his face in the last picture!
