It's official. We're moving. Probably just a couple of blocks down the road ... or maybe thirty minutes away, depending on certain variables.
On Wednesday, we received a letter from the private company that manages base housing here announcing that our home is scheduled to be demolished in November, meaning we have to vacate by Halloween.
They are building new houses right now that should be turned over to the housing company the middle of April. Which means that if everything works out okay we should be moving in May into a brand new house (which has it's plus side - no more continual plumbing issues like we have in our current home, and it's negative side - housing will be able to tell if you do ANY damage to the house and they will likely make you pay for it when you move out).
The only thing that would stop us from moving is if they ask us to move ourselves without a moving company to help us or without financial assistance. Typically in the Air Force if you are forced to move they will pay a moving company to accomplish the move for you and if you have to move your own household goods you get reimbursed for doing so. This housing company has not always followed these practices in the past. If the only way we can move into another house on base is without any kind of moving support then we will probably wait until October and rent off base because then they will have to give us moving support.
I hope that everything goes smoothly and we can move in May ... though moving with a three month old and a three year old ought to be interesting.
