National Jewish Day 3

Today we arrived at 8:30am to try to get two food challenges done: shrimp and white fish. By 4:30pm we finally got one food challenge completed: shrimp. David passed the shrimp challenge and can now eat as much shrimp as his little heart desires. He did pretty well on eating the shrimp (with catsup), especially if no one was paying attention to him. If we asked him to eat or watched him in the high chair he complained about "no food" "no sauce" "no fish", etc, but when we turned our heads and talked he gobbled it all up. He probably can eat any shellfish, including crab and lobster, but we'll probably test for crab later on just to check.

We were really delayed though because there were tons of kids on the wing all getting procedures done. I've never seen so many small children in the play room! It was irritating to wait so long for things to happen after coming so far, but we just tried to relax and have fun.

The allergy related portion of David's blood work hasn't come back yet, but the rest of his blood work came back today. He was in the normal range on everything they tested, which is great. Last year his numbers were all over the place. Also, his chest x-ray came back totally normal, which is a great sign that he doesn't technically have asthma.

Non-medically two great things have happened. First, I made my portable DVD player work with the TV in the hotel. I had to go and buy a special connector and with Lisa's help ("now it's clear, now it's snowy, now it's blue") we were able to watch a movie last night after David went to bed. I was super proud of myself for figuring it out :-)

Second, and more importantly, Chris is coming home an entire month early. He will come home on March 13 instead of April 12th!!!!! We are very excited that Chris is coming home so soon, less than 60 days now! We miss him so much!

Tomorrow we have a breathing test called a bronchial provocation. They give David a medicine call metacholine through a nebulizer and if he has asthma it will produce an asthma attack. How long and how much medicine they have to use to produce an attack helps us to know what condition David's lungs are in and what breathing medications, if any, he needs to be on. I'm a little nervous about producing an asthma attack. We are also going to have a nutritional consult and, if we get time, we'll food challenge white fish (with gluten-free, vegan fish sticks we found at Whole Foods Market), yummy!
