We had a great visit yesterday with a couple that is very near and dear to our hearts - John and Jody! (They hosted Chris & I's wedding reception in their beautiful backyard.) We started out the day with a great breakfast at Kay's in Orcutt, met up at our house for a home tour, then split up. John and Chris went golfing and I took Jody and David on a tour of the base with a quick stop at the BX for some shopping fun. David and us ladies then went to Santa Maria to see if we couldn't find any maternity clothes, but we ended up with a hat and some shoes. Jody and I had a good chat at home while David took his nap.
Perfectly timed, the guys returned home from a fun day of golf just as David was waking up. Chris took us all to his favorite local winery, McKeon-Phillips.
The winery was a blast. I hear that the wines were great. There was a little girl (about 18 months) named Audrey who was there with her family. David and Audrey had a blast. Audrey chased David all over the tasting room and every time she caught him she would give him a hug. Most of the time they both would topple over onto the floor rather than release the hug. At one point Audrey pinned David against the door and kissed him. David wasn't rude about it, but I don't think he was interested - he just wanted her to chase him again.
At the winery's recommendation we went to an Italian restaurant in Orcutt called Trattoria Uliveto. It turned out to be incredible, one of the best meals in the area by far and very reasonably priced for what we got (which was a lot and all incredibly tasty). I think Chris and I have found one of our new favorite local restaurants. My favorite was dessert - a flourless chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream, sugared strawberries and espresso sauce. I think Chris' was one of the appetizers we got - a rolled pizza crust stuffed with cheese and mushrooms served with brushetta. Chris and John both got cioppino, presented with a full Langoustine shrimp down the center of the bowl.
Sadly, after dinner, which ended after David's bedtime (though he was a very good sport the entire day!), we drove John and Jody back to the hotel and said good bye. I guess it wasn't too sad though, we all had a very special day and we'll see each other very soon.
