I had contractions most of the afternoon and evening on Friday but they were never even and eventually stopped altogether. Then Saturday evening as we were meeting Lisa and Jesse for dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant I started having contractions again. As dinner progressed my contractions were coming closer together and it became apparent that Chris' parents had arrived just in time.
At around 8:30 on Saturday night Chris, Jesse and I arrived at the hospital, but after two hours they sent me home because my labor wasn't progressing. So, I went home, drank some water and got some sleep.
At 2:45am on Sunday I woke up and knew I was getting much closer. I woke up Chris about an hour later and we went to hospital with Jesse.
We arrived at 4:45am. At that point I was 6cm dilated (10cm is the goal). My contractions were getting more intense, but really didn't seem as strong as I remembered contractions being with David.
Around 5:15 my nurse came in to start an IV ... and she never got one in. As she was prepping my contractions got incredibly intense and starting coming one right after the other. I suddenly had a huge contraction, I shut my eyes and my water broke. I remember saying my water broke and realizing that Timmy was COMING NOW! I wasn't in a delivery room so they wheeled me into one while trying to get me to focus on my breathing so that I wouldn't push Timmy out yet. But as the nurse, my doctor, and other medical staff were running around the delivery room rushing to set up Timmy was born with Chris holding my hand and Jesse rushing into the room with my hospital stay luggage. To say that it all happened fast is an understatement.
By 7am Timmy was getting his first bath and I was walking from the delivery room to my recovery room. Yes, walking. Timmy's birth was the complete 180 of David's in everything but speed. I have very very minimual tearing and have been totally mobile, functional and coherent since Timmy's birth, for which I am extremely grateful.
Here's a couple of pictures from the minutes after Timmy's birth:
Poor Timmy didn't have the best first day of life. His circumcision bled pretty dramatically and he was in a lot of discomfort most of his first evening and night. But that is the most dramatic thing that has happened to us since Timmy was born.
