David is becoming a great big brother. He is protective and eager to socialize with Timothy. Here's a frequently repeated routine in our house: Timothy wakes up in his crib in the nursery (the boys aren't sharing a room until Timmy sleeps a little more reliably) and cries. David hears Timmy crying and tells me. Sometimes he hears Timmy before I do! David asks to go see Timmy. Once give permission he will go to the nursery, climb the railing of the crib, turn on the light and say "good morning Timmy" or "time to rise and shine, Baby Brother Timmy." It's incredibly cute. David's too little to be of much real help with Timothy, but he's so eager to be helpful that it's great to see him develop a routine he can accomplish. And, come to think of it, he's actually very helpful ... usually buying me a couple of minutes to make a bottle or a diaper.
Timothy seems eager to get to know his big brother too. He becomes very alert when he hears David's voice and tries very hard to find David. Unfortunately it's very rare for them to make eye contact, because David doesn't ever stay still for very long, but I'm sure it'll happen once Timmy gets a little older.
The best is when David sings for Timothy when Timmy cries. He sings one of two songs: the alphabet song or "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." As soon as David starts singing, Timmy calms down and concentrates on David's voice. It works every time. David sings and Timmy coos and tries to find the blur that defines what David must look like to Timmy.
