Boy!
On Monday morning I had an ultrasound (I'm at 20 weeks gestation today) and it was very obvious to the doctor, myself, and Chris that we've got a little boy on the way. We are very happy. I was amazed by the ultrasound. I never had an ultrasound with David. We had four sonograms, a lesser cousin of the ultrasound, and I remember thinking they were pretty good images. Well, wow, the ultrasound was incredible. We could see the baby's four chambered heart, all the parts of his face and all of his spine. With as sick as I've been during this pregnancy, I've had a lingering worry that the baby might have some health issue. It was a huge relief to see that healthy little boy moving around (although I've been feeling him move around for about 2 and 1/2 weeks now!).
We've got a couple of names that we are mulling over. David was an easy choice for us, the name at the top of both our lists. Jesse was also easy because of it's connection of Chris and his paternal ancestry. We'll see what comes out of the process of thinking about it...
Speaking of David, he has been very sweet and thoughtful about the whole process. He will sit next to me and gently pat my growing belly. Of course, Chris taught him how to give my belly raspberries, which he thought was particularly funny.
For inheritance purposes I had thought it would be easier to have a girl who by default would inherit my traditionally more feminine heirlooms, but we were excited either way. We are thrilled that David and this baby will be siblings and have that special connection with each other. This concept is especially something I cherish, having never been raised full-time with any of my eight siblings.
The past couple of days I've had lots of daydreams about my two boys and the adventures that childhood holds for them, together.
